Cayuga ducks are an "at risk" species right now. There are a lot of stories floating around about Cayuga Ducks and how they were developed but the most common story is that the Cayuga breed is thought to have been developed from the wild Black Duck breed in the region of Lake Cayuga in New York. Prior to the arrival of the Pekin breed, Cayuga ducks were the bird of choice for meat production in the Northeast. Cayuga are a very hardy duck. Cayuga are a very hardy duck. Our breeding stock will lay black to dark grey eggs in the beginning of their laying cycle that will eventually lighten up to off white, or light grey eggs. We breed for SOP type and egg color.
